Laity Sunday

Laity Sunday is observed on the third Sunday in October. It is an annual celebration held to honor the ministry, leadership, and everyday witness of non-clergy church members. The purpose and meaning of Laity Sunday is to celebrate the shared calling of all believers, recognizing that ministry is not just the work of ordained clergy. The day honors the faithfulness, leadership, and service of laypersons who help build and sustain the life and mission of the church. Laity Sunday matters because it lifts up the essential role of laypersons in the life of the church and the world. From teaching and caregiving to advocacy, outreach, and worship leadership, laypeople are the hands and feet of Christ in every setting. “When churches are at our best, we emphasize the mutual efforts and responsibilities of both the laity and the clergy for doing the work of ministry. ” Rev. I always look forward to the ministry and witness of our laity during this special service. On this day, we celebrate the vital role of lay people—the everyday members who live out their faith and serve in their local churches and communities.

 

Lay members will lead prayers, scripture readings, litanies, and deliver the sermon.
